Prof. Dr. Gopi Aryal is the Principal Consultant and Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Nepal Mediciti. Renowned as Nepal’s first Renal Pathologist, Dr. Aryal has made significant contributions to pathology and laboratory medicine in Nepal.
Before his current role, Dr. Aryal was a Professor of Pathology at Patan Academy of Health Sciences, where he played a pivotal role as a key member of the pioneering team that performed Nepal’s first successful kidney transplantation in 2008.
Currently, Dr. Aryal leads a groundbreaking international research project, “Collection and Characterization of Multi-Drug Resistant Bacteria from Low and Middle-Income Countries,” in collaboration with the University of Queensland, Australia. He is also the Founding Chief Editor of the Journal of Pathology and Nepal (JPN) and has previously served as Editor of the Journal of Nepal Medical Association (NMA).
With over 30 publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Aryal’s extensive expertise spans across academic research, clinical pathology, and healthcare leadership. His distinguished career includes leadership roles as Head of Department and Laboratory Director at Nepal Mediciti Hospital, professorship at Patan Academy of Health Sciences, and academic positions at KIST Medical College, Nepal Medical College, and Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
Prof. Dr. Gopi Aryal’s dedication and pioneering work continue to shape the future of pathology and laboratory medicine in Nepal and beyond.
He has done MBBS from the Institute of Medicines, Tribhuwan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), a Ph.D. in Surgical Pathology from Tokyo Medical and Dental University, Japan, and a Post-Doctoral fellowship in Renal Pathology & Tissue typing from the University of Alberta, Canada. He attended a clinical observership in the Department of Orthopedics at Upsala University, Sweden. He was trained in liver pathology in the Arm Force Institute of Pathology, USA
