Dr. Ambuj Karn

HoD and Principal Consultant


Dr. Ambuj Karn, Head and Principal Consultant at the Department of Cancer Care in the Nepal Mediciti Hospital, boast over two decades of dedication to cancer care through his specialized practice in Radiation Oncology. He holds MD in Radiation Oncology from the prestigious National Academy of Medical Sciences in Nepal, following his MBBS degree from the Maharajgunj Medicine Campus, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University. 

Before joining Nepal Mediciti, he previously worked as Consultant at the Department of Clinical Oncology at the Bir Hospital, from 2007. He has also worked as Consultant Radiation Oncologist at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center, Lalitpur, since January 2014. He has also served as Consultant at B P Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Chitwan in the past. Additionally, Dr. Karn serves as editor of the Postgraduate Medical Journal of NAMS and as a member of the Institutional Review Board at Nepal Cancer Hospital & Research Centre. 

His areas of interest include Thoracic, breast, and gastro-intestinal oncology; Pain Management; Palliative care, end-of-life care; Teaching-learning; Breaking bad news; Multi-disciplinary meetings; Journal editing.

Dr. Karn maintains strong connections across various communities while serving as a leading voice in multiple national and international organizations, including the SAARC Federation of Oncologists, the Nepalese Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology, the Nepalese Association of Palliative Care, the Thoracic Society of Nepal, the Breast and Thyroid Society of Nepal, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. 

With numerous trainings under his belt, Dr. Karn has earned knowledge and skills from abroad including India, Australia, Singapore, China and the United Kingdom.

His passion for precision oncology, teamwork, interpersonal relationships, and communication skills has earned him recognition among colleagues and patients alike. Through his tireless efforts, Dr. Karn remains dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality care to those affected by cancer in Nepal and beyond.
