Dr. Prakash Poudel is a distinguished nephrologist in Nepal, currently serving as the Principal Consultant and Head of the Department of Nephrology and Organ Transplant at Nepal Mediciti. Since taking on this leadership role, Dr. Poudel has been at the forefront of kidney care and transplant medicine, offering advanced treatment solutions for patients with complex renal conditions.
Dr. Poudel earned his MD in Internal Medicine (Nephrology) from Zhengzhou University, China, following his foundational medical degree (MBBS equivalent) from Vitebsk State Medical University, Belarus. His international education has equipped him with global best practices in nephrology and organ transplantation.
Prior to joining Nepal Mediciti, Dr. Poudel served as a faculty member in the Department of Nephrology at Nepal Medical College under Kathmandu University from 2012 to 2020. During this time, he authored several peer-reviewed publications in nephrology and remains actively involved in clinical research focused on advancing kidney health and transplantation outcomes in Nepal.
Dr. Poudel is a lifetime member and Executive Committee Member of the Nepal Society of Nephrology (NSN) and is also affiliated with the American Society of Nephrology (ASN), underscoring his commitment to clinical excellence and continuous learning.
In addition to his academic and consulting roles, Dr. Poudel brings extensive leadership experience in healthcare management. He served as a Medical Officer and Chief Medical Officer at Om Hospital and Research Center, Kathmandu (2001–2008), and was the Founder Director of Star Hospital, Lalitpur (2006–2009)—positions where he played a key role in expanding access to quality healthcare in Nepal.
With over two decades of experience in nephrology, kidney transplantation, and hospital leadership, Dr. Prakash Poudel continues to lead innovation and elevate standards in renal and transplant care in Nepal.
