Dr. Richa Amatya is an Associate Consultant Psychiatrist at Nepal Mediciti, specializing in comprehensive mental health care for patients of all ages. She completed her MBBS from the University of Science and Technology, Chittagong, Bangladesh, followed by an MD in Psychiatry from Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara. Dr. Amatya has a rich clinical background, having worked at Annapurna Neurological Institute and Allied Sciences and as a Lecturer at Kathmandu University Hospital–Dhulikhel Hospital. She also gained valuable experience as a Correctional Psychiatrist at Dhulikhel Prison, providing mental health services to inmates.

Dr. Amatya’s extensive expertise includes diagnosing and managing a wide spectrum of psychiatric disorders such as insomnia, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, schizophrenia, childhood-onset psychiatric conditions, and geriatric disorders like dementia and delirium.

With nearly three years of experience as an Assistant Professor at Shree Birendra Army Hospital and the Nepal Army Institute of Health Sciences, Dr. Amatya is deeply involved in both clinical practice and medical education.

She is a certified TEAM-CBT therapist and integrates evidence-based psychotherapies alongside pharmacological treatments. Her innovative approach includes using Jacobson’s Progressive Muscle Relaxation Therapy (JPMR) to effectively reduce stress and enhance psychiatric treatment outcomes.
