Prof. Dr. Umid Kumar Shrestha

Umid Kumar Shrestha is an experienced Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist and is the Principal Consultant and Head of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Endoscopy. He has done his MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College (Bangladesh), MD in Internal Medicine from the Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University (Nepal), and completed his PhD in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Wuhan University (China). He was a Berenson Scholar in Advanced Endoscopy at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School Teaching Hospital in Boston, USA in 2014. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG) in 2018. He has received a molecular cancer prevention course under the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program from the National Cancer Institute, NIH, USA. He was formerly associated to Manipal Teaching Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal as the Professor of Medicine and Chief of the Internal Medicine II and Division of Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.

He is a chief editor of the peer-reviewed medical journals “Nepal Mediciti Medical Journal” and “Journal of Advances in Internal Medicine”. He has published several research papers in renowned national and international journals. His research works about gastrointestinal diseases have been published in renowned international medical journals such as ‘Inflammatory Bowel Diseases’ (official journal of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, USA), ‘Digestive Diseases and Sciences’, ‘Genes and Immunity’, ‘Clinica Chimica Acta’, etc. He has also published research papers on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and metabolic syndrome in ‘The Journal of Endocrinological Investigation’ (Official Journal of Italian Society of Endocrinology) and ‘Menopause’ (the Journal of North American Menopause Society). He has been a peer reviewer of international journals such as ‘The American Journal of Gastroenterology’, ‘Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology’, ‘European Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology’, ‘Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology’, ’BioMedCentral journal, Trials, etc. 

He has presented his papers in Digestive Disease Week (DDW, USA) in 2009 and 2010, at the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG, USA) in 2014, and at the World Congress of Gastroenterology (WCOG, Turkey) in 2019. He has contributed with several unique endoscopic pictures for the Endoscopic Slide Atlas of GastroHep.com, published by Wiley-Blackwell Publication of USA.
