Overview

Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) is a useful life support service for such severe patients whose 'lungs' or 'heart' or both "lungs and heart" functioning does not improve even after Mechanical Ventilator support. This method allows the blood to bypass the heart and the lungs, allowing them to rest and heal. ECMO technology can temporarily help the body when it is unable to provide tissues with enough oxygen.  It is one of the extreme therapies Mediciti offers at its ICU to save patient’s lives including infants and newborns.

By providing oxygenation and circulatory support, ECMO has the potential to be a life-saving intervention in critical situations where conventional therapies prove insufficient or fail.

It is useful for:

  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Heart injuries
  • Transplants and surgeries
  • Severe poisoning like Aluminium phosphide poisoning
