The Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Nepal Mediciti specializes in the surgical treatment of diseases affecting the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other thoracic organs. Our highly experienced team delivers exceptional care, performing hundreds of procedures annually, ranging from routine cardiac surgeries such as coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and valve surgeries to minimally invasive procedures and complex open-heart operations.
We offer advanced therapies, including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), artificial heart implantation, and heart and lung transplantation. With extensive experience in managing both congenital and acquired heart diseases across all age groups, Nepal Mediciti has established itself as a leading center of excellence in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery in the country.
Our department is home to some of Nepal’s most accomplished cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons, with expertise in operating on neonates, infants, children, and adults. The center has successfully performed cardiac surgery on the country’s smallest baby, weighing just 700 grams. We have a comprehensive Aortic Center specializing in complex open aortic surgeries and advanced endovascular procedures. In addition, the department has developed specialized expertise in the surgical management of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM).
Nepal Mediciti operates the country’s only structured ECMO program and is a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), reflecting our commitment to maintaining the highest international standards of care.
Our multidisciplinary team includes cardiovascular surgeons specializing in treating cardiac conditions across all age groups from newborns to elderly patients as well as thoracic surgeons dedicated to lung and esophageal surgery. They work alongside cardiac anesthesiologists, intensivists, ECMO specialists, perfusionists, cardiopulmonary physiotherapists, and specially trained nurses focused on cardiovascular and pulmonary care. We collaborate closely with adult and pediatric cardiologists, endocrinologists, nephrologists, neurologists, and other medical specialists to ensure a comprehensive, patient-centered approach for every individual.
The department also offers the country’s only comprehensive Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program, supported by specialized physiotherapists, dietitians, and psychologists who help patients achieve optimal recovery and long-term health outcomes.
