The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology is Nepal's largest hospital-based Category A Medical Laboratory, staffed by over 50 professionals, including a principal consultant pathologist, microbiologist, biochemist, transfusion medicine expert, as well as managers, section in-charges, technologists, and technicians. The department is dedicated to delivering high-quality medical laboratory services through advanced instrumentation and technology. It emphasizes maintaining high professional and ethical standards, ensuring the reliability of laboratory test results, developing new and improved tests, and collaborating with clinical staff in a holistic approach for accurate disease diagnosis.
The department aims to become a leading force in diagnostic medical services in Nepal by fostering continuous research and medical education, with the goal of reducing the need for outsourcing laboratory tests. It also offers a postgraduate program in Pathology under the National Board of Medical Specialties of the Government of Nepal. The range of services provided includes Anatomical/Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology (Exfoliative and Interventional), Hematopathology, Clinical Pathology, Clinical Biochemistry, Clinical Microbiology & Immunology, Molecular & Genomic Pathology, Transfusion Medicine/Blood Bank, and Drugs of Abuse and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring.
